The Sample Child theme is a free child theme for the Genesis framework by StudioPress, the developer of the Genesis framework.
Updated on 7/1/14 with the release of Genesis 2.1.1, the Sample Child theme is a 2 or 3 column theme with a blog-style homepage. In addition to the WordPress standards of custom menus and threaded comments, the Sample Child theme supports responsive design, custom background, and custom header. It also incorporates support for Google web fonts (specifically, Lato). The selected font and weights add about 94 Kb to the site’s page weight, which is a significant contribution for typography.
Just like other free child themes for the Genesis framework (e. g., 24K, Copyblogger, Fairway, Georgia, and Nomadic themes), the Sample Child theme has a total of 6 widget areas, 3 of which are footer widgets that divide the page into equal parts.
All of the supported widget areas are shown below:
We’ve got a live demo of the Sample Child theme that shows off its basic features. The 3 footer widgets aren’t shown in the demo.
The Sample Child theme is available on all of our plans, from PERFORMbasic and up.
