In December 2018, StudioPress updated the theme to include block editor enhancements.
The home page is divided into 6 widgetized stripes (Hero Section, Front Page 1 – 2, Front Page Featured, After Content Featured, and Footer CTA). The widgetized stripes support flexible layout configurations where the layout of the widget area is based on the number of widgets used in that area. For example, a single widget is full width while 3 widgets share the space equally. The screenshot below illustrate how flexible widgets are distributed across a widget area. Note that every row doesn’t contain the same number of widgets, even though the overall width of each row is the same.
All of the front page widget areas and the After Content widget area (which appears on all posts & pages) use the same layout configuration:
The Hero Section is easily turned on or off with a single checkbox and features 2 stripes. The top stripe of the Hero Section supports a title and an intro paragraph. The bottom stripe of the Hero Section is a fully functional widget area, into which any number of widgets can be placed. Turning off the Hero Section disables the widget area.
Essence Pro also includes an offscreen menu. At browser viewports of 1024 px and smaller, the offscreen menu is added to the bottom of the primary navigation menu and presented as a single, mobile-specific menu.
The theme uses 3 custom image sizes:
- sidebar-featured-image = 70 x 60 px
- featured-image = 800 x 400 px
- header-hero = 1600 x 800 px
Essence Pro also includes code and scripts that change the layout or add features, including:
- reducing the secondary navigation to a single level
- moving the secondary navigation to the footer and renaming it
- adding a script to match the height of selected entries
- removing the entry footer (where post meta would normally be displayed)
- moving featured images above the post title
- changing the default “read more” text to “Continue Reading”
- adding support for an “intro” paragraph style
- adding support for the Genesis Title Toggle plugin
- adding support for the icon font ionicons
Introduced on 5/23/18, Essence Pro is a 2 column theme with 3 layout options. Three of the 6 standard Genesis layout options have been removed to simplify content creation. The theme includes a landing page template. Beyond the WordPress standards of custom menus and threaded comments, the Essence Pro theme also supports custom headers and a mobile specific menu.
Essence Pro also supports Google web fonts (specifically Alegreya Sans and Lora).
