The Sixteen Nine Pro theme from StudioPress is one of 2 themes introduced with Genesis 2.0 to showcase the new HTML5 support in the framework. It’s a simple blog-style theme that stands out because it relocates the primary navigation to a fixed position in an area where one normally expects to see a sidebar.
Released on 8/7/13, Sixteen Nine Pro is a 2 column theme with 3 layout options. Three of the 6 standard Genesis layout options have been removed to simplify content creation. It includes an after post widget area and a landing page template. Beyond the WordPress standards of custom menus and threaded comments, Sixteen Nine Pro also supports custom headers, custom backgrounds with the Backstretch script, and Google web fonts (specifically, Playfair Display, Roboto, Roboto Condensed, and Roboto Slab). The selected fonts and weights add about 114 Kb to the site’s page weight, which is a lot for typography.
The Sixteen Nine Pro theme has a total of 3 widget areas, but 1 of those is used to display the menu on the left in our demo and the other is the primary sidebar. This theme is designed for those who don’t want to spend the time fussing with home page widgets.
All of the supported widget areas for the Sixteen Nine Pro theme are shown below:
