StudioPress Magazine theme. Strong use of widgets and features that take advantage of nearly all WordPress or Genesis options combine to make the News theme among the most popular StudioPress themes. The July 2012 update brought mobile responsive design features as well as a new landing page template.
In November 2013, StudioPress updated the News theme with HTML5 markup and gave it a new name, News Pro. If you’re looking to activate the News theme on a new site or to freshen a site already running this theme, be sure to check out the News Pro theme first.
First released on 5/10/10 and updated on 12/1/10 and again on 7/19/12, News is a 2 or 3 column theme with 6 layout options, 6 color styles, and a widgetized home page. Beyond the WordPress standards of custom menus and threaded comments, News also supports custom headers, custom backgrounds, multiple color styles (green, orange, pink, purple, red, teal, and blue – the default) and Google web fonts (specifically, Droid Sans and Oswald). The selected fonts add about 47 Kb to the site’s page weight, which is a modest addition for typography.
The News theme has a total of 12 widget areas, 3 of which are footer widgets that divide the page into equal parts. It also supports an “after post” ad widget, which can be used to add any widget at the end of a post, as well as an “after content” ad widget, which displays just above the footer on all pages, including the home page.
